Accessibility

The BVT Student Store is built to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. Accessibility is part of how the store is built, not an afterthought.

The store is conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at WCAG 2.1 Level AA: it meets the Level A and Level AA success criteria. Where a higher (AAA) enhancement cannot yet be met for a technical reason it is documented for review, but AAA is otherwise outside the scope of this statement.

Measures in place

  • Full keyboard operability with a visible focus indicator, and a "Skip to main content" link as the first item on every page.
  • Semantic landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer) and a clear, non-skipping heading order.
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images, and decorative images hidden from assistive technology.
  • Data tables (order history, order details, checkout confirmation) with captions and row and column header semantics.
  • Dialogs that move focus in, restore it on close, and can be dismissed with the Escape key.
  • Form fields with associated labels; errors announced through live regions and linked to their field.
  • Color contrast measured against its actual background and adjusted to meet the AA thresholds, with the verified ratios recorded internally.
  • Respect for the "reduce motion" setting, which turns off non-essential animation.

How we test

We verify the store with automated checks, manual code review, and manual assistive-technology testing — screen-reader walkthroughs, keyboard-only journeys, and zoom and reflow to 400% and a 320px width. This testing has been completed for the store as reviewed.

Known issues

We are not aware of any outstanding Level A or AA barriers in the store, and we continue to test it as it changes. If you rely on any part of the store and encounter a barrier, please tell us — see below.
